Meet Our Team

Population Biology and Behavioral Ecology, Dr. Greg O'Corry-Crowe, FAU, PBBE, Florida, Genetics, marine mammals, HBOI, arctic, beluga whales, dolphins, science

Dr. Greg O'Corry-Crowe wears many hats, but is primarily a biologist, specializing in marine mammals (even though he loves birds and bones). His real passion involves crafting some sweet beats and belting 'today's top hits' throughout the lab. When he isn't wrangling in the Arctic, he is cracking the whip, because that's what you have to do when you have grad students and rogue technicians.

Seriously, you want to work here.

Population Biology and Behavioral Ecology, Dr. Heidi Pagan, FAU, PBBE, Florida, Genetics, marine mammals, HBOI, arctic, beluga whales, dolphins, science

Dr. Heidi Pagan is the genomics ninja. Not one for bragging, we will have to do it for her. She will find a solution to your problem, run your samples and analyze your data before you even realize it isn't working correctly. Basically, your mediocre lab skills are not needed here.

Dr. Jeremie Brusini joined the PBBE team in January. Originally from France, Jeremie is rounding out our mini United Nations team quite nicely. He is interested in interactions between organisms and their environments, and his current work includes looking at the polymorphism and expression of genes involved in marine mammal immune response against parasite infections. He can play a mean game of beach volleyball and has an uncanny ability to always pick perfectly ripe avocados. We are quite impressed.

Population Biology and Behavioral Ecology, Tatiana Ferrer, FAU, PBBE, Florida, Genetics, marine mammals, HBOI, arctic, beluga whales, dolphins, science

Tatiana Ferrer is the resident lab gangster. She will methodically work through large numbers of samples, taking no prisoners and showing no mercy. Being a sketchy Spanish and Ukrainian mix makes her a bit unpredictable and her marriage to an Italian means the Department of Homeland Security is having a field day with the paperwork. Previous training makes her deadly with a pipette.

Laura Pescitelli is the newest addition to the PBBE team. Completeing her Bachelor's at FGCU and then her Master's at USF, Laura helps us check off a few more Florida university alma matters. Bringing her skills from citrus and insect research, Laura is jumping right into nextgen sequencing and data analysis (with a little old school bench top genetics sprinkled in for good measure)! Laura is our official unofficial Mouse guidebook as well. Got a question about a park, a ride, or an event weekend? LP has all the information - from parking to food - she's got the 411. Who doesn't love insider secrets?!

Jorge Monroy is a molecular genetics "jack of all trades". Need something done - Jorge is your man. Proficient in several types of extraction through sequencing, Jorge is now working closely with Jeremie and transitioning into learning how to prep samples for Next Generation sequencing and the data analysis required for the pipeline.

He will be graduating with his Bachelor's from IRSC soon, and we are all excited to see where Jorge's next adventure will be. If he has his way, it will be someplace cold!
